making sure that you substitute your usual username and your usual
password in the appropriate places.
Paste the configured URL into the URL window of one of the windows
of either Netscape or Internet Explorer and hit ENTER.
Let the page load completely. This is the directory of your
complete site.
Open the file that you made in Step 1 (previous page) on your
desktop.
Highlight the file that you hardcoded the webring's code into and
drag it onto the window in either Netscape or Internet Explorer
that has your complete directory showing. AOL users may experience
a problem unique to AOL at this point. AOL users may discover that
they can only open one window at a time. To get around this, go to
the window with your complete website directory showing in it (see
Steps 1, 2 and 3). Find the minimize mark in the upper right
corner. It looks like a __ mark. Click it. This
should cause this window to fully minimize and appear as a small
icon on your task bar (the thing across the bottom of the screen
with the START button in it). Go back to the window with the
highlighted file that you hardcoded the webring's code into. Make
sure that it is still highlighted. Right click the highlighted file
AND DON'T LET GO!!! Pull your cursor towards the task bar (the
thing across the bottom with the START button it it) AND DON'T LET
GO!!! Place your cursor above the small icon for the window that
contains your complete website directory AND DON'T LET GO!!! After
a few seconds this window will open. Let it. When it is fully open,
pull your cursor into the center of it and let go of the right
click. A dialogue box will pop up asking for confirmation. Hit YES.
Allow the file to transfer and the page to completely reload. This
may take a minute or two, but be patient, you're doing an
FTP.
Congratulations, you've just uploaded your new version of your page
with the webring's code hardcoded into it!!! Go to your site and
check it out. You may have to hit RELOAD/REFRESH (or even dump your
cache) to see the changes, but they should be there. These upload
instructions can also be used for other files you've created. You
now know how to publish files to your site!!! You've also taken the
first steps towards becoming a true webdeveloper and webmaster,
important skills for the 'Net.
