Site Search - Pacoima Ranch As always, there are multiple ways to do
things here. The first green box is for quick, static searches of
pre-spydered results. It's very fast, but doesn't always include recent
changes. The second green box is a Perl-script dynamic keyword search that
actually spyders every single page throughout the site for your keywords.
It takes a half minute or so, but misses virtually nothing - which is
actually extremely fast when you realize it's searching thousands of
documents. You might also want to search the 'Net via categories - try
our copy of the DMOZ
Directory for that!
Search Pacoima Ranch via FreeFind.COM
Search Pacoima Ranch via our dynamic script
To find information about a topic, simply type in a keyword or two,
hit the START MY SEARCH button and up come your results. You may now
put exact phrases in quotes. I get the best result when doing this
from the second search box, above.
The number of returns is no longer limited. I routinely get over
fifty matches, and they come up really fast. To fine tune, use a
different keyword or choose the SEARCH THESE RESULTS/SEARCH WITHIN
THESE RESULTS (if offered) option. I have the best results when I use
one or two unique keywords.
These search engines are primarily text based and will ignore the
text in true .gif's, true .jpg's, other binaries, and most tags.
Should you receive a match, but be unable to find your keyword, try
using "View source" to see if your match is hidden in the HTML coding
or META TAGS of the page.
These Perl spyder features work so well that I use them when I need
to find text as part of a large batch text edit (or kill the links to
a really flaky server that used to be a mirror, afffiliate, reciprocal
link, and similar). If you're not afraid of a humongous list of
results, use the second box, above.
You may have been familiar with our old search engine. As Pacoima
Ranch grew into a megasite, it got very slow and inaccurate from
having to run around too much and never being allowed to rest or catch
its breath. These new search engines are hosted on separate servers
that frequently spyder Pacoima Ranch or based on our newer script. The
good folks at FreeFind.COM and BigNoseBird help to keep my
cgi-bin ultra speedy.
