In an unprecedented move, online megasite Yahoo.com has decided to open its very own porno store and to allow porno on its freehost, GeoCities. The Community Webmaster for The Portal has issued a statement for immediate release regarding this:
"Yahoo.com and its related freehost GeoCities.com have decided to allow true hardcore porno. For this reason, all links to ANY Yahoo (or related webproperty) need to be removed at your earliest convenience. Please remember that Citizens may not have links to porno, and a link to ANYTHING Yahoo (or related webproperty) is now a link to porno. The most unfortunate upshot is that any link to GeoCities and WebringYahoo (Webring.org) are also involved in this problem and should be treated as possible Yahoo links.
Links to any site at GeoCities site should be carefully verified to ensure that they do not lead to porno. Should you find objectional material, please remove the GeoCities link. Expect futher ideas and decisions on this, as there is a Yahoo link on every GeoCities site. It is suggested that ALL GeoCities links be removed. This precaution does NOT apply to Yahoo.com links, ALL Yahoo.com links need to be removed. Links to WebringYahoo (Webring.org) are NOT involved in this problem at this time, though it is suggested that you remove any LIST ALL SITES, LIST NEXT 5 SITES, LIST PREVIOUS 5 SITES or JOIN links if they are served via the WebringYahoo (Webring.org) servers. A quick click on the JOIN link will tell you all you need to know. If the URL for the JOIN link starts out something like http://webring.yahoo.com you should seriously consider removing it. Other decisions regarding links to WebringYahoo (Webring.org) are forthcoming.
The short version: ALL links to Yahoo.com need to be removed. Links to GeoCities should be verifed to make sure that no porno is on the site. Any WebringYahoo links that LIST something should be removed (including most JOIN links).
We will be phasing this decision in over the next 90 days or so, and will not immediately treat any improper Yahoo, GeoCites nor WebringYahoo links as deletable infractions. It is possible as the Net community reacts to this highly improper move on the part of Yahoo, that Yahoo will recant and remove their online porno store. A Captains Council will be shortly called to steer The Portal through this emerging controversy."
A Captains Council is being called, with online debate being available at The Forums in the Captains And Cadets area. Current suggestions indicate the all Citizens of The Portal will be offered several initiatives on how to treat the grey area problem of how to deal with GeoCities and Webring.org links.
