Update (September 16, 2004):
Inside sources have revealed that the older license used by GoonieTown is now for sale. It has been deeply discounted and includes free transfer help from Blaxxun. This is the former 50-user license that ran GoonieTown. If you'd like to buy it,
contact Chris for details.
Update (September 5, 2004):
After much sniffing around, the new URL was found:
http://www.vrdimension.com
The page extolls the virtues of the new setup, and requests a minimum purchase of $20 before the URL for members to sign in is revealed.
Original story (August 1, 2004):
After two fun-filled years, GoonieTown.COM has apparently disappeared. Current attempts to resolve the URL produce a Plesk Desk error page suggesting that all files have been misplaced or erased. Knowledgeable surfers were at a loss, though many were aware of the demise.
GoonieTown had started out as a "softer, gentler" version of CyberTown. Similar ideas, only a lot more friendly and with fewer rules. Worldbuilders (the people who build the special Web3D files - large worlds, homes, and objects) openly mingled with Citizens in dozens of worlds, homes and rooms.
There had been plans (posted on website for GoonieTown) about a full software and server upgrade and a new domain to be started soon, but the URL's on file are yielding 404's on these for the moment. People had been openly encouraged to sponsor the new domain and software by making large donations. How this will be resolved is unknown.
