From the December 2000 Headlines

Our series of interviews with Captains continues.

Fr. Peter Darin, Captain for Society--Modern Christianity

Why are you a Captain?

I became a Captain to help others as I have been helped along the way in my usage of computers and the Internet. I remember when I started in computers. I had a very difficult time learning and remembering what to do. It took over a year for me just to learn the very basics.

If it wasn't for the people that helped me along the way, I wouldn't be as skilled as I am now with computers and the Internet. It's because of these people that I became a Captain and love to lend a hand to others as they learn. It's like passing down a family tradition.

Just in this case, the tradition is the caring, compassion, and inspirations that I received and am able to share with others I help. Ironically I've been blessed with meeting some of the nicest prople one would ever imagine in performing my duties as Captain of Modern Christianity.

The people are the best reason I could possibly give as to why I would put myself through so much work. Its absolutely wonderful to see the face of a frustrated person light up with joy when they accomplish something they spent weeks frustrated on.

Jesus said it best when he said it is better to give then receive. It brings joy to my spirit in so many ways when I help others. Being a captain really is a blessing more then a responsibility and for that I am thankful to GOD for the opportunity.

A humble servant in Christ,

Robert Aloysius Peter Darin, Father General
