ADVERTISING SCANDAL!!!

Update (July 6, 2001):

With over 130 votes already submitted, a slim margin of Rangers and Rangerettes are still electing to suggest that the Mall manager evict Amazon.COM over its new privacy policy. Current votes show 59% in favor of the eviction.

Original story (June 2, 2001):

Online megaretailer Amazon.COM has become embroiled in an escalating privacy scandal of their own making. Unlike prior such scandals in which hackers caused private information to become public (or outright stole it), Amazon.COM has opted to begin selling and renting its members private information to third parties. Little notice was received by members, with most claiming they received no notice at all about the new policy. Prior to this, members could select to not allow their information to be shared with any third party. The new policy (and interface) at Amazon.COM no longer has this option.

Several lawsuits have been filed, but both were dismissed as the Judges felt that since people may opt to not buy at Amazon (and protect their privacy), the lawsuits were without significant merit. A large contingent of privacy advocates are currently encouraging Netizens to refuse to do business with Amazon.COM or its subsidiaries. Our very own Shopping Mall rents space to Amazon.COM in four different areas, and is currently beginning the investigation process to ascertain the danger to surfers that this new policy of Amazon.COM's poses. It is a violation of Shopping Mall rules to deceive a customer or treat them disrespectfully and grounds for eviction. If this new policy is felt to be deceptive or an improper treatment of surfers, a full-scale eviction will shortly ensue.

An online poll is currently being conducted to test the mood of the Rangers and Rangerettes. Most recent results would indicate that a slim majority favor asking Amazon.COM to leave. Feel free to view results and vote on this most important issue.
