***INSTRUCTIONS***
Copy this file to your harddrive OR refer to the copy in the .zip
file.
Download this
.zip and unzip it. Peruse the basic start pages (flowerpatch.html,
stonered.html or wallpaper.html) to decide which set to upload. Pages
and graphics specific to the Flower Patch set use the word phrases
Flower_Patch, flower_patch, and flowerpatch as the first part of their
filenames. Stone_Red, stone_red and stonered (pronounced "stone red"
AND never "stoner ed" [***snicker***]) are for just the Stone Red set.
The Wall Paper set uses Wall_Paper, wall_paper and wallpaper. As long
as you keep the original .zip, you may safely delete any unneeded
files. If you accidentally delete needed things and don't have the
.zip still local, you may redownload from:
http://www.pacranch.com/instructionsfreetemplates.html
Be sure to keep the internal structure (files and folders trees) as
is when you unzip, you need this structure for the links and scripts
to run correctly. The "layer" that contains flowerpatch.html,
stonered.html or wallpaper.html should be at the public_html, htdocs,
or c:\htdocs level when you upload (exception, the template will
become a subsite in an existing site - just create a subdir for it in
such cases). Be sure to upload all HTML and PHP as ASCII. All
graphics, Flash Movies (.swf files) and music (.mid files) need to be
uploaded as BINARY.
Go to the basic start page (flowerpatch.html, stonered.html or
wallpaper.html) and use the GuestBook link. If the GuestBook looks
like aliencode garbage, go in using WS_FTP (or any telnet compatible
FTP client) and begin doing chmodes on the PHP files, .inc files, .dat
files and the folders they are in. Try using a plain 775 to start. If
this works, you are done with the basic upload configurations. If 775
doesn't yield a functioning script, try chmoding ONLY the folders that
contain any PHP files (including .inc files and .dat files) to 777.
Should this fail, contact your server's help desk or administrators
and ask them for the correct CHMOD permissions for PHP on your server.
As a rule, 775 on pages and scripts, 664 on graphics and other
binaries and 777 on .dat file folders is correct. Avoid making all PHP
files be 777, it's possible for a good hacker to alter the script at
that permission level.
Working with the copies on your local drive, do a global replace for
the name of your basic start page (flowerpatch.html, stonered.html or
wallpaper.html) to the index.html page (exceptions - you need it to be
something else OR your server uses a nonstandard index page). Work
slowly and carefully when doing this. Ensure that relative paths and
absolute paths are NOT altered, just the name changes. Once completed,
reupload the affected pages. You may need to reset CHMOD permissions
on the PHP parts of the change.
