Graphic Frenzy - Color Charts

There's a lot of different ways to get color onto your pages. Great graphics are only one way. By using the different color tags you can change the color of text, borders, backgrounds, links, and tables. Be careful, though. Colored text can be hard to read, and overly dark backgrounds make dark text really hard to read (the same is true of light text on light backgrounds). The links below will show you the many six-digit (hex, hex triplet, triplet) codes that can be used to make things colors. There's also a chart with the classic colorwords pioneered by Mosaic and Netscape. Each has different strengths and uses.

click me and visit Chart One - a basic 216 palette 216 Palette - Huge Swatches
A truly huge chart showing the basic colors for Netscape, Internet Explorer and most systems. Huge swatches. Not a graphic image.

click me and visit Chart Two - all about colorwords, an alternative way to use color - a basic 140 colorword palette Color Words - No Hex
Explore an alternate way to add color - colornames, the original way to add color. More subtle than the 216 palettes. Not a graphic image.

click me and visit Chart Three - a basic 216 palette 216 Palette - MouseOver
A mouseover JavaScript chart that lets you see the colors exactly as they look on your browser. Not a graphic image.

click me and visit Chart Four - a basic 216 palette 216 Palette - Static Image
I use this one a lot because it loads really fast. It's a .gif - but the colors are very accurate.
